The "Kaylee's dead" thing is a cruel joke. But it's also a quick and dirty test of Simon's character- how does he respond? He RUNS for the sick bay, to check, to see if there's ANY WAY she can be rivived.

First, Train Job?`That is ep.2 that fox made a pilot and Joss had a week to make it a pilot. Companion = Space Geisha; yes there is sex, but she is hired arm candy. Buffy fan? In season 2 plan was in cold open in some dive bar Mal is talking to and we see it is Spike.

Definitely felt nothing like a lawman. I mean, hes hotheaded with an itchy trigger finger and is prone to bouts of excessive violence against unarmed men. It’d really be whacky if we actually gave badges to people like that.

This show sent me into a deep depression knowing that the truest love I will ever know is with a fictional mechanic on a short-lived show.

You'll hear them call Kaylee 'Meimei', which is basically 'little sister' in Chinese. They all care for her like a little sister. Even Jayne. He teases her like a big brother. Notice how intent he was during her surgery.

This is a very off putting reaction. There's nothing more immersion breaking than constantly being reminded that the story and characters aren't real. Talking about the actors' other roles and only calling them by their real names is... jarring. Doing it in every sentence you speak is abrasive. People are here because they're fans of this show and these characters. Just try to get into the story with us. We don't need the IMDb. It's a fun story. I hope you get more into it.

Like many of the best shows 'Firefly' has _at least_ 5 characters where, if anyone told me they were their _favourite_ i'd just nod and think "Yep, I totally get that" so it's fine to disagree there. But anyone that doesn't _love_ Kaylee must have a shrivelled husk where their heart should be :).

Even though the Whedonverse has many top shows to choose from, the holy Trinity that is sacred to watch is The Buffyverse and Firefly. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Dollhouse are also popular in the verse. Just so you know, get ready to see a lot of familiar faces because the Alumni Whedonverse actors, production, writers snd crew work together on different projects. Even the adjacent universes like: How I met your Mother, The MCU, Supernatural and David Boreanaz's show called Bones. Your jaw will drop when you see alumni and/or the writing style of the shows seem similar to the Whedonverse shows. Ben Edlund is a writer/director and exec who worked on shows in the verse, then went on to work on Supernatural. Fun fact: the captain on the Alliance ship (at the beginning) that put out a flag on the Firefly is the same actor who played in season one of Angel, as the doctor who could separate his body parts and was stalking his former patient. He is also the man who played D'Hoffran ( however you spell it), who was the Vengeance demon boss that made Anya one, and tried to convince Willow to be one. The dirty cop going after River and Simon Tam played the villainous demon in the Buffy episode called "Anne". You know a few of the main characters been in other Whedonverse shows, because you already seen Nathan on Buffy. Moreana also played Vanessa, Deadpool's girlfriend. Great reaction. I initially panicked when you said "Train job" as the first episode. I stopped the reaction to read the video title just to be sure.😂 We Brown Coates take the watch order seriously. Lmao😂

Basically new CEO(?) came in after the show was okayed, and he didn't like sci-fi. So he did several things to sabotage it like airing episodes out of order and having 2-3 week breaks in between some episodes. They also didn't even air three of the episodes, and the first episode was aired last.

Now you've got me wondering what's wrong with Hollywood, cuz Brazilian women are the hottest. They should be all over American TV and movies. I apologize if anyone is offended by this comment, from my point of view it's intended as a compliment to Brazilian women ☮️

Don't worry about pointing out the Brazilians! There are plenty of Canadians in Hollywood (such as Nathan Fillion and Jewel Staite / Kaylee) but that doesn't stop us from pointing them out.

Lots of Buffy/Angel alum. Big one being the agent who in all three plays a character that starts off seeming like a nice guy, and turns into the bad guy in a twist.

The crazy Ivan fast turn like that was indeed the "Something you can't do" because the Reavers had a large ship. The "NOW" was the signal for them to do the hard burn. Which the other ship probably could do, but it wouldn't have done Serenity as much good until After they did the Crazy Ivan.

Looking forward to more of your "Firefly" RUclips edits, I've already been enjoying your "Buffy" and "Angel" ones. I hope you get into this as much as those! Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to entertain us!

Not the first to wonder about something between Inara and Kaylee. I get it, they are good looking ladies. But they are more a big sister, little sister chemistry.

This was an almost perfect pilot to introduce all the characters. Unfortunately, we who watched it when it originally aired, never got to see it till the show was already canceled. . That made it hard for even us Browncoats to get into the show at first. It didnt really capture me till the third episode, Our Mrs Reynolds, aired.

Hey Domi, great choice here! You're jumping into a masterclass in seasonal writing. If you have a second watch, it's amazing how many minor details will jump out, all shiny & obvious. Watch for the minor details of insight by Zoe, Shepherd Book, & River Tam. Oh, and Jayne will be in his bunk.

Of course everyone loves Kaylee. She's the Willow of the show. Every Whedon show has one: Fred, for example.

Ah, a youngster is boarding "Serenity." What will she make of this amazing, "Red Headed Stepchild," "frontier space," series? When will she start singing "The Ballad of Serenity"? Will she become a Browncoat? So many questions to be answered over just 14 episodes...;) I saw what episodes Fox TV deigned to broadcast, and had trouble finding it, what with sports preemptions and NOT broadcasting three of them. I didn't see all of "Firefly" until I bought the DVD set. So, every time a RUclips viewer falls in love with "Firefly," a Fox TV executive falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building. Inara functions as a Geisha in the 'verse.

Best TV show ever. Serious. Glad to see you doing this.

Summer Glau should definitely be a familiar face. She was on the season three episode Waiting in the Wings. She was the ballerina cursed to forever dance the same dance.

It's funny you should mention BSG because the same company made the effects for both shows. The Serenity also makes a cameo during the pilot of BSG.

Love Firefly but the pilot is one of my least favourite episodes (though still great as you just saw). The tone of most of the episodes is a bit different to the pilot and works a bit better IMHO

The nasty joke at the doctor's expense 27:04 is so jarring and it still bothers me, too. I want to think they'd be better than that (well, maybe not Jayne, but the others), but there it is. Malcolm Reynolds is the most complex of all Whedon heroes. And, yes, I think Joss is very aware that "mal" translates as "bad." When Kaylee tells him how nice he is, he tells her no, "I'm a bad, bad man," and he, at least, believes that.
